New CITES Website Categories
On Tuesday, November 24, CITES will add two new categories (Reference Library and Services for Departments) to the website navigation, and will remove the Page Tools tab. Please contact the CITES webmaster with questions and comments or the CITES Help Desk for assistance. [23 Nov 2009]

Thanksgiving break hours for CITES services
Hours of operation for many CITES services will be reduced during the week of Thanksgiving break. [18 Nov 2009]

Active Eraser now available to all staff/faculty
Active Eraser, a tool that allows Windows users to securely delete files on their computer, is now available to all U of I staff and faculty at no cost through the University of Illinois WebStore. [16 Nov 2009]

Adobe Maintenance Period Updated
All Adobe maintenance subscription offers have been updated to the new expiration date of November 30, 2011. All current Adobe maintenance subscribers should go to the WebStore "UPDATES" tab to renew your license maintenance to the new subscription period. [28 Oct 2009]

Sign up today for Illinois Chat, the University-supported, instant messaging service that allows faculty, staff, and students to chat within the safety and security of the University network (NetID-only access). Group chat rooms, restricted to authorized users only, are also available. [28 Aug 2009]

A Record Month for WebStore
July 2009 turned out to be an all-time record month for the University of Illinois WebStore. Overall sales for the month totaled $287,665, a 14 percent increase over the prior all-time record sales month in August 2008. The increase can be attributed to the recent addition of Apple, Dell, and HP hardware and to the growing list of products offered on the WebStore. [28 Aug 2009]

New VMware Services
Virtual servers provide higher availability, faster deployment, lower cost, lower energy use, and simpler upgrades. CITES-Hosted VMware Services are now available to campus. [28 Aug 2009]

Paging Services to be Retired
CITES paging services will be retired on December 1, 2009. Paging equipment provided through CITES was no longer available as of July 1, 2009. However, CITES will continue to support existing paging services until December 1, 2009. [28 Aug 2009]

New DNS Resolver Address
As of August 1, 2009, there is a new DNS resolver address for campus. The old DNS resolvers/servers were retired on July 31, 2009 [28 Aug 2009]

Dialup networking retired
The UIUCnet Dialup and UIUCnet Premier services were retired as of July 1, 2009. [28 Aug 2009]

Campus DNS Servers Retired
The old DNS resolvers/servers for campus were retired on July 31, 2009 at 8:00am. Please transition to the new campus DNS resolver address 130.126.2.131 as soon as possible. [07 Jul 2009]

Paging Services to be Retired
CITES paging services will be retired on December 1, 2009. Paging equipment provided through CITES is no longer available as of July 1, 2009. However, CITES will continue to support existing paging services until December 1, 2009. [26 Jun 2009]

New Content Category
On Thursday, May 28, CITES will split the "Online Coursework and Classroom Technologies" content category into two new categories-"Computer Labs and Classrooms" and "Online Teaching and Learning". [26 May 2009]

The Oracle Calendar service was severely affected by the campus power problem Monday, August 25, and the resulting power outage in CITES' Data Center. [26 Aug 2008]

Campus Phishing Attempts
Over the weekend of August 23, 2008 identity thieves tried to trick people into giving away the details of their University of Illinois email accounts. [26 Aug 2008]

CITES NetFiles Upgrade
On Sunday, August 17th, CITES will be conducting a software and hardware upgrade of the CITES NetFiles service. [08 Aug 2008]

Set Your Security Questions
If you forget your NetID password you will not be able to reset it online via NetID Password Manager unless you have set your security questions. [17 Apr 2008]

Emergency Messaging System

Illinois Compass Upgrade Complete
On June 9th CITES EdTech successfully moved Illinois Compass to more robust server hardware and upgraded the software to Blackboard Enterprise Vista 4.2. [26 Jun 2007]

Network Upgrade Progress Report released
The Campus Network Upgrade Progress Report has been published, detailing the progress CITES has made at the halfway point of the ambitious five-year, $20-million initiative to upgrade the network in more than 260 campus buildings with the latest in state-of-art data networking technology. Oracle Calendar Update for Daylight Savings Time
After CITES performs a necessary update on February 24, 2007, all users of Oracle Calendar will then need to manually adjust events scheduled during the newly expanded Daylight Savings Time periods (March 11 - April 1, and October 28 - November 4). [20 Feb 2007]

Presentation Technology Showcase set for January 26, 2007
CITES Classroom Technologies presents its audiovisual technology showcase, featuring presentations, seminars, and a first-hand look at the latest audiovisual and multimedia equipment. New this year, CITES Security staff will perform security checkups on laptops, aid in installing or updating site-licensed software, and register laptops to aid in retrieval in the event of theft or loss. PC Magazine names UIUC 6th most wired campus
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign makes the grade as one of the nation's most connected campuses, ranking as the sixth most wired campus according to PC Magazine's recent survey of the "Top 20 Wired Colleges." More [12 Dec 2006]

Find People (PH) External Access Temporarily Offline
The web interface of PH for external users is currently down due to concerns about possible access to data from off-campus. This issue is being diagnosed and we are working to resolve it. [08 Dec 2006]

Intermittent Email Delays
Recently, some campus email users have experienced delays in email delivery. The main campus email relays have been suffering from an Internet-wide uptick of spam email, which has challenged the capacity of CITES Spam Control. CITES has made some successful changes to address this issue. If you have general email questions, contact the CITES Help Desk. [09 Nov 2006]

Internet Explorer 7 Compatibility
CITES Help Desk has completed usability testing for Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) with CITES Express Email, NetFiles, and Illinois Compass. Our testing did not reveal any problems connecting to or using these services. Illinois Compass required us to disable pop-up blockers, but this is true for all browsers. [24 Oct 2006]

CITES Express Email Changes
CITES Express Email quotas have been increased! Students now receive 100 MB; faculty and staff have 150 MB. In order to better manage server space, we can no longer hold messages for users whose accounts go over quota. This means it is more important than ever that you keep your Express Email account under its quota. CITES NetFiles Quotas Increase to 500 MB
Storage quotas for CITES NetFiles increased from 100 MB to 500 MB for all students, faculty, and staff on July 31, 2006. [31 Jul 2006]
