About the CITES Antivirus CD

The CITES Antivirus CD will help you disinfect a Windows computer that's been infected with a virus. It also contains additional security recommendations and software to help you keep your system up to date and secure from non-virus problems like spyware and port scanning.

How to get the CD

You can get a copy of the CD from the CITES Help Desk at 1211 DCL. If you have a CD burner or are in a computer lab where the computers have CD burners, you can also download the latest CD image from https://tools.cites-security.uiuc.edu/avcd/Current/ and burn a CD from a computer which is not virus-infected.

How to use the CD

There are two different ways you can use the CD: for automatic virus scanning and removal and for ongoing security improvements.

Automatic virus scanning and removal

If your computer has a virus, the easiest way to disinfect your system is to put the CITES Antivirus CD in a CD or DVD drive and restart your system. Your computer should start the VirusScan program and attempt to clean your system.

(If your computer does not start the VirusScan program, please contact the CITES Help Desk at consult@illinois.edu or 244-7000.)
